Festive week in honor of the Geologist’s Day in MGRI

This year, the Geologist’s Day, which is celebrated in our country for the 55th time, falls on April 4. In honor of the holiday, the Geological Festival has been held at MGRI for a week. The rich program included games, quests, excursions, thematic meetings, photo exhibitions, polls and a festive concert.

The opening event of the festival was a meeting with the «Moscow Youth» project office team on March 29, where students discussed trends in career and education, development opportunities for a young person in the capital, and also took part in a quiz in the «Zachotnaya Moskva» mobile app.

Also, on the first day of the festival the students played «Geological Alias» online, a popular game where teams needed to guess words related to geology. In order to win, the participants required deep knowledge of earth science. And on the same day they could demonstrate their knowledge in the poll “Check Yourself in Geology”, which took place in the social networks of the university.

On March 30, MGRI students were taken to an excursion around the Mineralogical museum conducted by the head of the museum and teacher of the Mineralogy and Gemology Department Tatyana Dolzhanskaya. Students were fascinated by the valuable information and facts about many of the exhibits presented in the museum.

In the evening of the second day, the students took part in the quest "Hold on, Geologist". A unified adventure story was invented for the participating teams: they had to solve the mystery and name the code word for victory. To receive clues, participants completed tasks to test their ingenuity, creativity and knowledge in the field of geology at special stations that were scattered throughout the university.

On March 31, students played another world-famous game, modified in a geological way - "Mafia". It did not have the usual roles of "civilians" and "mafia", but there were "students", "brawlers", "foremen" and "teachers". The goal of the game was to find out who is trying to disrupt the summer practice.

On the third day of the festival, two exhibitions were opened in the main hall of the university: “My Practice” and “Geomorphology”. The first exhibition featured photographs taken by students during their practice, and the second one included images of the Earth taken from space. According to them, Kirill Yushin, an employee of the General Geology and Mapping Department, told everyone interested about the geomorphology of the Earth, the geological method of interpretation – aerial photos, patterns and dynamics of relief in different parts of the world.

On April 1, students tested their theoretical knowledge and practical skills at the festival "Mom, I am a geologist": 15 thematic stations worked for the participants, where they had to guess minerals, compare geological sections, remember the names of geographical objects, and also assemble a tent and select items necessary for the route.

In the evening, the students took part in the "Geologist’s degree of efficiency" quiz, which was held at the Mineralogical museum of the university. The teams gave answers to questions from different areas of geology, including tasks related to knowledge of historical events and discoverers of deposits. Quiz took several stages, while the questions became more difficult and required detailed answers.

Friday, April 2, was the final day of the Geological Festival. A festive concert was held at the university, where students Anna Davydova, Sofya Pavlova, Roman Tkachenko, Anna Tazina and others appeared with creative performances. During the concert, the most active participants of the previous festival days, the winners of the Case-in championship, the winners of the intra-university cybersport championship as well as outstanding teachers were awarded.

A large-scale celebration was prepared with the participation of the Department of Youth Policy, university professors, the United Council of Students, the MGRI Intellectual Games Club, the School Faculty, the Council of Foreign Students, student media and other departments of the university. A great and cohesive work has been done to ensure that all events were held at a high level and created a truly festive mood on the eve of the Geologist's Day.
