At the time of the development of the digital modelling technologies and the world’s subsequent transition to the use of global navigation systems, exploration geophysics has successfully adapted to the world of modern technologies in the contemporary geographic data domain and has made extensive use of them. When geophysical data processing is concerned, more digital geophysical data, the presence of a whole array of methods and the latest developments in mathematics and programming require in-depth knowledge on the part of a specialist, and this knowledge often exceeds basic courses. The course is based on a comprehensive and systematic approach to the study and processing of geophysical data, and these skills are in high demand in the industry.
The curriculum of the course includes the study of modern geographic information systems and the technologies of geological and geophysical data processing and interpretation. The graduates receive the most contemporary knowledge in a whole range of both general scientific and specialized subjects, such as computer technologies for the creation of geological and geophysical models, modern methods and algorithms in the analysis of complex geophysical data, the systems of measurement, the application of neural networks in geophysical data processing and interpretation and others. A characteristic feature of this specialization is its close connection with mathematics and information technology. Most of the workshops and laboratory work are conducted in computer classes equipped with powerful computers, and the students learn to work with the software products of global geological and geophysical data processing brands.
The graduates of the program become the employees of large industrial, design and scientific organizations as well as geological prospecting enterprises engaged in the conduction of geophysical surveys, analyses and interpretation of geophysical data and the making of deposit models. Our graduates are often invited to the State Mineral Resources Committee of Russia to conduct expert consultation, and are engaged in scientific research. A Bachelor’s degree in this field opens up big career opportunities as our specialists are in demand in Russia and abroad.
