MGRI joined the Association of "Green" Universities of Russia

On the basis of the agreement signed between the organizations, Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting became a member of the Association of "Green" Universities of Russia - an all-Russian association of universities that realize environmental practices and promote principles of sustainable development.

Cooperation between the university and the association will be aimed at environmental education and the formation of an environmental culture of MGRI students and employees. It is also planned to implement measures aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the university (responsible waste management, water, energy and heat conservation, "green procurement", etc.). For the university, joining the association will be a new stage in the development of environmental practices.

MGRI has already launched quite a wide range of activities aimed at greening the life of the university. Many "green" events has already been held. For example, in September 2020, the university joined the large-scale all-Russian campaign "EcoDobro", in which students  planted trees on MGRI territory and took part in a plogging marathon, moreover, various meetings and lectures on ecology topics were held. The university also entered the top-500 world universities and the top 40 "green" universities of Russia in the UI GreenMetric environmental sustainability ranking. 

"I am sure that joining the association will not only be a new stage of joint work, but also increase the environmental literacy of MGRI students and staff", - comments Anastasia Mashkova, vice-rector for international affairs and regional cooperation.

The Association of "Green" Universities was established in 2017 as part of the federal partner program "Green Universities of Russia", which is implemented by the All-Russian green movement "EKA" and the Foundation for Support of Youth Initiatives "ERA". The program is focused on the implementation of the environmental principles of sustainable development and the "green" economy in Russian universities. Currently, about 80 educational institutions of Russia are members of the association, including the largest universities in the country.

Together with partner universities, the Association of "Green" Universities conducts webinars on environmentally-oriented university administration for students, teachers and employees; organizes quests, trainings, competitions for students and their eco-projects; conducts all-Russian campaign on collecting recyclable materials in universities, events on environmental education and involvement of students in practical environmental actions, etc. The association also forms an annual ranking of "green" universities of Russia.
