Geoecology

Geoecology is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary science that integrates the geosciences with the life sciences, focusing on the influences of geological processes on historical and contemporary patterns of biogeography, including the causes and consequences of geoedaphics on biota at all temporal and spatial scales. At the same time, geoecology examines the role biota play in a range of geoedaphic processes, including in weathering and pedogenesis, thereby altering the chemical and physical composition of the Earth’s surface and its patterns of biodiversity.

The students of geoecology deal with a wide range of issues related to environmental protection and rational natural resources management. Our graduates work on ecological rationality accounts and conduct ecological expertise of projects. The scope of professional activities includes the study and development of environmental law, assessment of the state of natural resources and environmental monitoring, environmental modeling and prediction of the effects of various human activities, environmental impact assessment, environmental marketing and management, environmental audit, environmental and economic assessment of natural resource potential, evaluation of losses arising from environmental pollution, ecological mapping of territories using geographic information systems, environmental and engineering surveys for various types of land development, the conduction of monitoring at various facilities, comprehensive assessment of the ecological state of the natural environment at a given territory.

Our graduates can work in prestigious and high-paying positions at enterprises and organizations involved in environmental monitoring and environmental protection. For example, our specialists are often employed by Gidroproekt OJSC, Gidrospetsgeologiya Federal State Unitary Geological Enterprise, Georesurs Research and Production Enterprise, Mosgorgeotrest State Budgetary Enterprise, Institute for Water and Environmentaal Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geoecology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Geopolis CJSC, NOEX NPO, PNIIIS JSC, etc.
