Hydrogeology and engineering geology

This graduate program implies the acquisition of all the knowledge and skills necessary for the work on a whole range of hydrogeological, geocryological and engineering geology-related tasks in order to prepare engineering rationales for any construction projects. The graduates’ professional scope of activity is connected with the study of the Earth’s upper crust, lithosphere, rocks, ground water, forecasting dangerous natural and anthropogenic geological processes, prospecting for ground water, etc. Graduates of the program will be able to fulfill various scientific and applied tasks in the field of hydrogeology and engineering geology, including the work in the regions with permafrost. 

The graduates receive the most contemporary knowledge on the structure, composition and evolution of the Earth’s upper crust and learn the most modern hydrogeological, geocryological and geological engineering research methods applied at all stages of foundation construction. Students of hydrogeology and engineering geology study a wide range of specialized subjects in hydrogeology, engineering geology, geocryology and interdisciplinary fields which enable them to successfully conduct geological engineering and hydrogeological surveys both for the purposes of construction and prospecting for ground water as well as making an assessment of its deposits, even in the regions with permafrost. Scientific work is an important part of the studies. It is conducted in the modern and well-equipped University’s laboratories and scientific and educational centers of various industrial enterprises.
