Water supply engineering and sanitation engineering

Water supply engineering and sanitation engineering are the fields which are concerned with design, construction, reconstruction and operating the systems of water supply and sewage systems. Water supply engineers and sanitation engineers can efficiently ensure the uninterrupted operation of water supply facilities for the needs of the public and state and commercial enterprises, so that the water is of due quality and is supplied in sufficient amount. They ensure that wastewater is disposed of in time, that communications and facilities are maintained and repaired in due course, that waterworks and sewage systems are operated and managed according to the laws, rules and regulations in this sphere and that drinking and wastewater treatment is conducted under technological control. Water supply and sanitation specialists control the use of reagents and other materials, supervise the introduction of modern technological and constructional solutions aimed at the intensification of water treatment processes and, finally, work to increase the efficiency of individual components of water treatment systems.

In the course of their studies our students learn to design the systems of water supply and drainage, estimate the amount of water, develop the technological plans of water purification and the treatment of precipitations, calculate parameters and make drafts of the elements of the water supply and drainage systems. The students learn to identify, make schemes of and analyze the technical and economic parameters of the water supply and drainage systems, compare and check the conformity of design projects to the effective environmental regulations, operate waterworks, assess their technical condition, develop the technologies of drinking and waste water purification, conduct chemical and microbiological tests to control the quality of water, create plans of action in emergency cases. The students practice at modern waterworks and water supply and treatment facilities of many production companies in the central region of Russia.

Our graduates conduct theoretical and experimental research, prepare the necessary documentation for construction and piping, design water treatment facilities, operate the equipment, manage the systems of water supply and treatment and conduct purification of waste water in both private and state enterprises, including state agencies and scientific institutions. Our graduates occupy positions ranging from engineers to experts and top managers.
